I use professional disposable piercing needles to pierce and this is why.

On the left, it’s a piercing needle, on the right it’s a piercing gun stud that is used in a piercing gun. Piercing needles are sharp and cause the least amount of damage when put through the skin, and they create a pathway for the jewelry to sit in. This reduces irritation and scarring so your piercing can heal properly and stay healthy. Though the piercing gun stud feels pointy they are not very sharp at all. When this blunt earring is forced through the ear with the gun it can cause blunt force trauma. This trauma can lead to a large amount of damage, like bumps, prolonged discomfort and poor healing.

Piercing Aftercare

Always wash your hands before you clean or handle your piercing or jewelry. Use sterile saline solution, 2-3 times daily. Spray directly onto the piercing, or spray onto a Q-Tip to remove dried discharge. Do not touch or rotate your jewelry, especially while it is healing, unless you are cleaning it. Do not use rubbing Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or soap (unless advised). These items can be harmful to your new piercing. Do not saturate your new piercing in any pool, lake, hot tub, or bathtub during the healing process.

Sleeping on your new piercing can cause irritation, swelling, and potentially impact the position during the healing process. Do not let your new piercing come in contact with animals, other people, or their bodily fluids. Infections are rare, but they can happen. Consult a healthcare provider for the following symptoms: unexpected redness, tenderness, or swelling at the site of the piercing, any rash, unexpected drainage at or from the site of the piercing, or any fever within 24 to 48 hours of the piercing procedure.
