Tattoo Aftercare
If you choose to use plastic wrap, remove the wrap after 2-4 hours, wash the tattoo with warm water, pat dry with clean towel or paper towel. Do not rebandage the tattoo. Apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor, or unscented, alcohol-free lotion after wash. Repeat wash-lotion 2 times a day until the tattoo is fully healed (up to 4 weeks). Do not use cleaning solutions such as alcohol or highly scented soaps, as these will irritate your tattoo wound. During healing do not saturate your new tattoo in any pool, lake, hot tub, or bathtub. Do not allow the tattoo to come into contact with animals or another person’s bodily fluids.
If you choose to use Saniderm, wear it for 1-3 days. Pooling of reddish, brown, fluid under the bandage is normal. Your body is releasing plasma too heal your tattoo and excess ink is being pushed out. Keep an eye out for irritation around edges, especially on soft and sensitive skin. If irritation occurs, take it off at your discretion. This issue caused by friction and the pulling off the skin, not an allergic reaction. Its rare to have an allergic reaction to the adhesive, but if you do, it will be over the entire covered area, not just the edges. If this does happen, take it off immediately and seek medical attention. Saniderm stays on skin even when immersed in water... so you’re able to shower as normal. It is waterproof, however excessive exposure to water should be avoided because it could weaken the adhesion.
Taking Saniderm off: I suggest removing the Saniderm in a warm shower, find an edge of the bandage then pull it back over itself in the direction of hair growth. I don’t recommend pulling upward on the Saniderm because it can be painful. . The warm water will loosen the adhesive and make it easier to remove. Do not use a washcloth, loofah, or sponge to clean your tattoo. These can be painful to clean a new tattoo with and may harbor bacteria.
Post wrap and Saniderm aftercare: expect peeling and slight itching during the healing process. Do not pick or peel at any flaking skin or scabbing. Go easy on workouts. Don’t expose the new tattoo to the sun. Using sunscreen after the healing process is complete will help hold the coloration longer. Infections are rare, but they can happen. Consult a healthcare provider for the following symptoms: unexpected redness, tenderness, or swelling at the site of the body art procedure, any rash, unexpected drainage at or from the site of the body art, or any fever within 24-48 hours of the tattoo procedure.
About Saniderm
Saniderm locks in the body’s natural moisture and healing enzymes, allowing the body to heal itself in the most efficient manner possible. After skin has been injured, healing elements are produced to help break down dead tissue and rebuild new tissue. Under normal circumstances, these healing elements dry up and evaporate which reduces their effectiveness. When this happens, longer healing times are required and scabbing and scarring may occur. Saniderm locks in these healing elements, and allows the skin to continue to function as normal because the bandage is permeable to oxygen and water vapor (breathable). In addition, Saniderm protects against dirt and germs while eliminating friction and other irritations that might further interfere with the healing process.
